Macha Horchata

I like horchata at the moment I find it satisfying in the morning.  It’s usually made from soaked rice, cinnamon and almonds. I thought I’d try it with pine nuts and star anise, then add some macha for breakfast.

It was really delicious.

Serves 2 adults

  • Soak 1/3 cup white rice overnight in 3 cups boiling water, with 1 star anise, 1 vanilla pod and 1 cup raw pine nuts.
  • In the morning blend this mixture and strain it through a fine mesh.
  • Wash the blender and then add just the strained milk back in plus 1 cup of water.
  • Add 2tbsp maple syrup
  • 2 tsp macha powder

Blend it up and enjoy the jitter free caffein hit!

N.B: You could add a banana, avocado or a tablespoon of nut butter if you wanted to make this a more filling smoothie.

If you want to make this for the kids leave out the macha.
