Camu Camu

Today I added Camu Camu to my boys smoothie. It’s not a well known superfood so I thought I’d post a bit about it here. Camu Camu is a berry that grows only in the Amazonian rain forest. It’s available to buy in powdered form in most organic supermarkets. I like it because it has 60 times the vitamin C of an orange, and if you are in the middle of winter, as we are here in NZ, then this is something you need right now.

Camu Camu also contains lots of potassium, which is an important mineral for proper heart and kidney function. In addition to this, there are 3 types of amino acid in Camu Camu, one specialises in digestion, one in tissue growth and repair and the third in cognitive function. Factor in anti-fungal, anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties and you will want to add this to your smoothies too!

Ingredients – serves 2

  • 2 1/2 cups almond milk
  • 1 banana
  • 1 tsp Camu Camu
  • 2 tsp maple syrup
